«Silent as a Bomb»

Performed by Veronica Bejmuk and directed by Aljoscha at the National Circus of Ukraine, Kyiv.

In the desolated acoustic orchestra shell, the sad clowness conducts an absent band with a transparent, almost invisible bioism on her hand. Growing frustrated by the lack of response and the failing of musicians, her movements become erratic. Biological frustration activates hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis pathways, releasing cortisol and adrenaline. As no music follows, her frustration peaks, driven by the brain's amygdala, leading her in her anger to hurl the bioism down. Few colleagues below gasp in fear, their periaqueductal gray matter triggering innate survival responses.
Frustration, amplified by the general fear of war bombings, disrupts the brain's dopaminergic pathways, often resulting in anxiety and depression. The masses, under constant threat, experience a chronic stress response, where the reward system becomes dysregulated, exacerbating emotional turmoil and impairing empathic abilities.
