Performed by Oleg Dobryi and directed by Aljoscha at the National Circus of Ukraine, Kyiv.
The countless daily air alarms and blackouts have become routine for the Ukrainian people. The clown Dobryi enters the empty arena with his suitcase. A sudden blackout follows, strange noises filling the darkness. When the lights return, his suitcase and one of the bioisms are gone. He walks further, and another blackout occurs, accompanied by eerie sounds. Once the lights back on, he realizes his jacket and another bioism have vanished.
Determined, he moves forward, enduring yet another blackout. When light returns, he stands almost naked, stripped of his pants and shirt. Exhausted, he discovers a transparent bioism. Playing with it, he finally falls.
This story tells about daily blackouts from Russian bombings and shellings, symbolizing ongoing losses. It represents damaged lives, injured animals, destroyed plants, lost existences. Each blackout and missing item highlight the relentless impact of conflict on everyday life, human and ecological costs of war.
The Dobryi's journey through dark interruptions is a metaphor for war's incessant disruptions. Each lost item — whether a suitcase, clothing, or bioism — remembering shattered lives and dreams.
The transparent bioism briefly offers hope before innocence is crushed.
The clown, nearly naked, symbolizes the stripping away of normalcy, dignity, and security, leaving raw vulnerability.
